OFI 225: Custom Box Making And Saw Milling To Support Your Agricultural Lifestyle | Brent Legere | Lovell Box Company
If You Like This Business, You Will Love This Branding Iron For Your Wood Products:
I am very excited to bring you this interview. Brent Legere is living what I think is probably one of the coolest lives possible. He is living on his family’s homestead in Lovell, Maine and to support himself he is building wooden boxes with his own “flame stamp” on them and selling them to tourists and farmers alike.
Speaking with Brent is equally impressive. He is humble, down to the earth and not overly excited with the golden goose that he seems to have discovered. This is one of those businesses that I would love to replicate, and I have to remind myself that I cannot chase every good idea that is out there.
I really enjoyed conducting this interview.
ADVICE FROM BRENT:
Stay out of debt. Debt kills the pleasure of this lifestyle, and it will cause you to make decisions that are not in the best interest of your lifestyle.
BEST BUSINESS ADVICE BRENT HAS EVER RECEIVED:
Don’t be afraid to charge enough for your product or service to survive and make a profit. People frequently undercharge because they are nervous about finding clients. Don’t make this mistake. Get clients through producing great products or service, and they will pay what you are charging.
PERSONAL HABIT THAT HELPS BRENT SUCCEED:
Brent doesn’t take anything too seriously. He knows when to take a break, how to get over frustration and how to keep his work enjoyable.
Brent recommended a Facebook group called Portable Sawmills as a tremendous resource to help you answer all questions related to milling your own lumber: LINK
Brent also recommends finding professionals in your field, networking with them and consulting with them
