Our guest today is engaging in what is commonly referred to as “social entrepreneurship”. This is something that is emerging and changing in entrepreneurship all across the landscape. Benevolence is built into the sales and marketing model.
In Sophie’s case she is creating two products for sale in different seasons – painted flower pots in the spring and “pink porcelain pumpkins” in the fall. She is doing this under the business name “Sophie’s Crafts.” Of the pumpkins that she sells, a certain percentage of the proceeds are already dedicated to the Holt County Cancer Foundation.
I asked Sophie what inspired her to do business this way, and she cited all the good things the foundation does for her community and being able to give back. This is a viable business model that serves two purposes at once. It is exciting to see this model develop.
