My time of profiling national star finalists is winding down. I am writing this while I am at the 2017 national convention. Leah is a great candidate for a national star in agriscience, and unfortunately the award can only be given to one student. Leah did not take home the trophy this year, but her project was absolutely fantastic.
Leah has one of the most compelling projects that I have ever seen. She definitely has the mind that is needed to pursue research in agriculture. To begin she removed, algae from her uncle’s pond, dried it, mixed it with hay and then fed it to her goats. She watched how much they ate of each mixture and determined the appropriate ratio.
She also figured out that she could grow vegetables in top soil bags. Just by cutting holes in the plastic and planting the seeds in the soil she conserved water and cut down on weeds. Amazing!
