Our guest today is a repeat guest.  PJ Jonas first appeared on the show in episode #38 in 2015.  At that time she had an incredibly successful goat milk soap business already.  However, in the past three years she has added more products, services, consulting, a podcast and agritourism to name just a few things.

PJ and her family are absolutely the epitome of a family who took a love for farming, combined it with a niche and used strong marketing to produce a legacy.  Goat Milk Stuff is an internationally known brand, and PJ is the go to person in this space.

This episode is full of great advice for anyone who wants to build their farm business to the point in which they are completely self-supported and farming full time.

ADVICE FROM PJ:

PEOPLE HAVE NEEDS:  When you are building your business and marketing concentrate on the needs, wants and pain-points of the people you are trying to serve.  Sales and revenue will naturally follow if you are solving problems for your potential customers.

IDENTIFY: Who is going to do the marketing in your business and/or family?  Make sure it is someone who enjoys it and has a passion for marketing.  If it is not, they will not put the energy into it that is necessary for it to succeed.

PERSONAL HABIT THAT MAKES PJ SUCCESSFUL:

NEVER MET A PROBLEM SHE COULDN’T SOLVE: PJ explained that she will not quit until she figures out a solution to any problem that she is facing.  This probably sounds easier that it is.  But in agriculture you will have to figure out how to solve problems, one way or another.

BEST BUSINESS ADVICE EVER GIVEN TO PJ:

GROW SLOWLY: PJ has seen a lot of businesses lost because they grew too fast, but has not seen many lost because they grew to slow.  Growing fast can be very tempting, but growing slow allows you to keep out of debt and control as many variables as possible.
