OFI 276: How To Start A Fruit Tree Pruning Business | Dave Hunt – Northeast Edible

 SHOW NOTES

KEY IDEAS:

I really enjoyed getting to know today’s guest.  Dave Hunt was inspired by his grandmother when he was much younger to prune fruit trees and prune them correctly.  This turned out to be a passion of Dave’s, and ever since he has been doing whatever he can to grow his own fruit and do this type of work.

After answering an ad on Craigslist asking for help pruning some fruit trees, a business idea developed.  Northeast Edible was born.  Now Dave is developing his pruning business and is hoping to expand to selling his own fruit trees to other customers.

I hope you enjoy this inspiring story!

ADVICE FROM DAVE:

ASSOCIATE: Dave highly recommends finding a local association that will pair you with more experience people prior to starting this as a business.

LEARN: Take a class that teaches you about pruning and the different facets of your regional area.

MENTOR: While you are participating in association meetings or your class, find a mentor who can help you avoid mistakes that they have already made.

BEST BUSINESS ADVICE DAVE HAS RECEIVED:

START: Get out there and do something.  Just thinking about it and researching does not get you any closer to where you want to be.  Start!

PERSONAL HABIT THAT HELPS DAVE SUCCEED:

RISE EARLY: Dave is very purposeful about getting up early and starting his day correctly.  When that happens, the rest of the day is much more productive.

BOOKS/RESOURCES:

Dave recommends The Holistic Orchard: Tree Fruits and Berries the Biological Way as a powerful resource that he used.
