OFI 1988: Make Money Doing What You Love – Film Your Farm | Doug Armknecht | Kansas Farm Imagery | Re-Cap Episode

Spring is coming everyone, and it always makes me think about the spring of 2012.  Back then I had never started a business, but I had identified one that I wanted to start.  The first business I started was gopher extermination, and it was a seasonal business.  All winter and spring I had been getting cold feet and chickening out until one night at about 3am I sat straight up in bed and realized that if I did not get started I would have to wait a whole year more to begin because I would miss the season.

If you have been doing the same thing, the time is now!  Don’t wait until May like I did.  Take a step forward and begin.  On today’s show I want to go back to an interview about one such business.  If you are thinking about staring a farm photography or video business, growing season is coming!  Get started, and let this interview I did with Doug Armknecht back in 2015 be your inspiration!

SHOW NOTES

KEY IDEAS:

Doug Armknecht married into a farm family.  He has a passion for photography and filmography, and soon the combination of that and his new farm family met to create something wonderful!

In addition to his full time job, Doug now creates agricultural videos about farming in his region of Kansas.  He started doing this just for fun and as a tribute to is family’s agricultural traditions.  However, as his videos went up on YouTube and became more and more popular this led to business opportunities for Doug making videos.

His videos have been viewed hundreds of thousands of times, and this has led to multiple opportunities.  His combination of videography, music and agriculture really inspires anyone who loves Ag.

ADVICE FROM DOUG ARMKNECHT:

PATIENCE: Doug talks about patience in many different aspects of what he does.  Whether it is waiting for the perfect light for filming or for people to start viewing your videos, you will need to have patience.

WATCH: Don’t just focus on shooting videos, watch a lot of other people’s videos.  Get a great idea of what other people are doing, how they are doing it and what you like!

QUALITY: Make a quality video.  Don’t settle for something less than what you want.  Make it pop and always strive to get better.
