OFI 453: A Tribute To Farmers And Middle America Through Song | Neil Thrasher Jr. | Fly Over States

SHOW NOTES

KEY IDEAS:

I am a huge fan of country music.  One of things I have always liked the most about this genre is the songwriting and how lyrics can tug at your heartstrings.  As I have interviewed hundreds of people in agriculture from all across the country the community of farmers that exists has started to feel more and more like a family.  So, I am a fan of any song that gives those of us in agriculture the reverence we deserve.

The song “Fly Over States” sang by Jason Aldean is one of these songs.  There is so much that is right about this song when it comes to farmers and how those of who live between the two coasts are taken for granted.

I’ve been listening to this song and loving it for years now.  For some reason, a few weeks back, it dawned on me that I should find the explanation behind this song and tell you all about it.  I set out at that point to try and identify and interview the writer of this song.  Ultimately, this led me to Neil Thrasher Jr.  He and his collaborator, Michael Dulaney, crafted this masterpiece, and I wanted to know more about it.

I reached out to Neil, and he graciously agreed to come on the show and talk all about it.  He even indulged me talking about the business of being a song writer and told some stories about some of his other songs like “There Goes My Life” that is sung by Kenny Chesney.

This interview was a thrill to conduct, and I hope you love it!
