On tomorrow’s Ag Business Episode I am speaking with a gentleman who has a career’s worth of experience in farm radio, radio in general and in creating a syndicated radio program. This took me all the way back to episode #36 for our re-cap episode when I profiled John Harrer who was beginning The Whoa Podcast, and we talked about building this type of broadcasting business.
The original show notes are below.
KEY IDEAS:
ADVICE FROM JOHN HARRER:
Plan: John discusses that having a plan or outline at the beginning is necessary so you can keep on the path to where you wanted to go. I can speak to this from experience. There are always temptations that will pull you off course because they seem like a great idea. This is often referred to as chasing “bright shiny objects” by entrepreneurs.
Unbiased Advice: Find a detached, third party to review one of your episodes. You need to find out if it is good or not, and if it has any value. If your listener can’t make it through an episode, it is time to re-tool.
JOHN HARRER’S PERSONAL HABIT THAT IS CONTRIBUTING TO HIS SUCCESS:
Observe and Keep Your Mouth Shut: John states that he has learned to be a good observer as well as listener. The biggest obstacle to doing this is talking or trying to be heard. Now John enhances his learning by concentrating on his ability to observe.
BEST BUSINESS ADVICE THAT JOHN HARRER HAS RECEIVED:
Be Yourself: When John was interviewing Baxter Black, Baxter told him just to be himself and everything would work out all right. John strives to do this every day.
