KEY IDEAS:
I am leaving on a great weekend trip the day that this episode comes out, and I am dreading it! Everything is right about this trip: the farm will be left in good hands, I will be catching up with family that I almost never get to see, there will be warmer temperatures and we will get to go to the ocean. But I still find myself dreading this trip. This has had me puzzled all week, and I finally realized what the problem is – I’m Content!
That might seem like a strange reason for dreading a trip, but when you really break it down, it’s not. I am happy right where I am at. I get my intrinsic rewards here on the farm. Everything that I need is right here. I don’t need to go “recharge my batteries” in some other location. I really have no reason to leave. There was never a question that I was going to go, as opportunities like this to get together with family are rare for me. But, I have entered a new stage of life in which contentment is slowing me down on my travels.
So, I decided to break down contentment with you and talk about what you should expect when you reach the lifestyle you are looking for. We also talk about how to be content right now, wherever you are in your journey. Last, we discuss some current events. With the terrorist attack in San Bernardino the day before I created this episode, I just could not ignore what was happening in our country and world.

This was probably my favorite podcast of yours that I have listened to. You inspired me to get serious about a couple projects that I’ve been considering doing to get back on the road to self employment.

Thank you Garoleen. That is a huge compliment, but I am conflicted. I don’t want Smith Center to lose you!
