OFI 1197: Supporting The Farm Household Selling Tupperware & Selling Books | Rosie Bosse | Tupperware Pro

90% of farmers in the U.S., large and small, rely on off-farm income to run their households because the farm revenue just won’t.  In a larger percentage of these instances that revenue comes from a working spouse.  In today’s episode, I get to interview Rosie Bosse, who is and was that working spouse and she has an amazing story of entrepreneurship, creativity, and hard work that spans 42 years.

Rosie and her husband farm and raise cattle in Northeast Kansas.  Over their 42 year marriage, they have raised four children, who are all out of the house.  They continue to farm and raise cattle to this day.  In our interview, Rosie stated that the farm paid for itself, but it didn’t produce enough income to support the household. Therefore, her role, in addition to the parent, was to come up with a way to create that income to run the home.

Rosie was creative in how she did this.  In 1984, she began selling Tupperware, and she has been doing so ever since.  Malcolm Gladwell says that you need 10,000 hours of experience in something before you can be considered an expert.  Rosie has worked these hours, many times over.  At her peak, Rosie was conducting six Tupperware parties per week, 50 weeks per year, and she was driving all over the State Of Kansas to do so.  She even stumbled into a non-traditional sales method of having inventory on hand at the parties and discovered an additional way to boost her sales.

Rosie is getting ready to turn 65, and she is slowing down on the Tupperware front after 37 years.  However, she is still involved, consulting with people who want to get involved.  Over the past several years, her children have noticed a talent that she has for creating children’s stories while Rosie puts her grandkids to bed.  They encouraged Rosie to write these down, and she did so – all the way to being a published author!  In today’s episode, she will tell us all about how she has found success in both endeavors.
