OFI: 1220 Replay: Andy Dyar | Agricultural Clothing | Creating and Marketing Clothing

Today is a special replay of a show featuring an interview I did with Andy Dyar, who followed his entrepreneurial dream and started a T-Shirt company. He did extensive research and learned that professionalism was key in building his business, Farm Heritage, Inc.

Original Show Notes:

KEY IDEAS:

ADVICE FROM ANDY DYAR:

RESEARCH: Andy is a big advocate for extensive research.  Find the best prices and best quality out there.  Sometimes, you have to dig pretty deep to find what it is you are looking for.

BE PROFESSIONAL: Andy talked about finding the best t-shirt printing company he could and it being in Texas.  He said that it just works that way sometimes and that is part of being a professional.  Just using your “buddies” will not help you to come across as a professional to your customers.

INTEREST: Andy wants you to have a genuine interest in what you are doing.  He started a failed business making t-shirts with cars on them.  His interests are not in cars.  He chose that genre just because it looked like a good business opportunity.  He stated that when he did not have a genuine interest he could not produce the type of product that resonated with customers.

ANDY DYAR’S PERSONAL HABIT THAT IS CONTRIBUTING TO HIS SUCCESS:

ALL IN: Andy describes himself as a person who goes “all in” when they develop an interest in anything.  Whether it be hobbies or sports when he was younger or the shirt business, he invests himself 100%.

BEST BUSINESS ADVICE THAT ANDY DYAR HAS RECEIVED:

START SMALL:  Although Andy sometimes has trouble following this advice himself, starting small and building slowly is the pathway to a successful small business.
