One of my favorite things about hosting this show is catching entrepreneurs and families at the beginning stages of their journeys and being able to see their vision with them. That is certainly true of my interview with Marrianne and Greg Russell, the owners of Rock Bridge Farmstead in Kentucky.

Marrianne and Greg have known each other since 2005 and have been married for sometime now, and they did not always have a vision of being full-time farmers or farmsteaders. Instead, they came to their farm partially by picking a place to live that was central between each of their families and partially because they wanted buy a home with some room for them, and their dog, to roam.

It was sometime after starting to enjoy the rural lifestyle that Greg started to realize that he didn’t want to leave that haven of peace any longer. Greg’s job currently takes him all over the State Of Kentucky. Not only is he driving a lot of miles, but he is working a lot of hours and missing a lot at home. Once he saw what was possible on he and Marrianne’s farmstead he knew he wanted to work towards a life that allowed him to stay there.

Marrianne has been home schooling their children and staying on the farm, and she is on board with Greg making this transition for both the quality of the family life and the help at home! Greg and Marrianne looked at their interests and what they could do on their 2.5 acres, and they decided that the keystone of their farmstead life was going to be bees, what bees produce and value added products made from honey, wax, etc.

They have been working at this for about a year now and have their own line of value added products for sale already on their Etsy Shop. They are in the process of expanding their bee hives, and this have given them a projection of about three years until Greg can come home for good.
