OFI 309: How To Create An Online And Local Meat, Egg And Produce Delivery Business | Zac Harrison | Fresh Harvest Georgia

 SHOW NOTES

KEY IDEAS:

This interview has so much to offer I don’t even know where to begin.  Zac Harrison has had a great last 10 years since finishing high school.  He pursued his dream of being a musician for several years.  When the time came to move from that dream he loaded up on a motorcycle and drove cross country from Atlanta to California.

While Zac was in California he discovered a passion for agriculture and developed a vision of what would later become Fresh Harvest.  Now, at age 28, he is 5 years into building this business and has found the way to market local produce online to customers in the city.  His model is revolutionary and is likely to be replicated.

Just when I thought I had mined all the gold out of this interview I asked Zac about hiring team members for Fresh Harvest.  That is when he dropped another nugget on me. Fresh Harvest chose its location based on a desire to hire refugees who had been relocated to the Atlanta area.  Zac and his partner saw a need and a way to serve refugees at the same time as serving farmers and his community.  What a great example of social entrepreneurship!  What a great example of vision!

ADVICE FROM ZAC:

GUT CHECK: Before you start a business take some time to really imagine what it would be like if you worked twice as much as you are imagining.  Then see if it still sounds fun.  If it does, go for it!

COMMON VISION: When you are assembling a team make sure that you surround yourself with people who share your vision and with people that you want to work with.

BEST BUSINESS ADVICE ZAC HAS RECEIVED:

CONTROL: Realize that you are not in control so when things do not go well you can accept that and keep moving forward.

BLESSED: Have an attitude of gratitude and realize that you have been blessed even to try and live your life this way.

SERVE: Be an employer that serves your team members.  Not the other way around.

PERSONAL HABIT THAT HELPS ZAC SUCCEED:

LISTS: Zac likes to make lists and stay organized.  This helps him to get things done and stay calm when things get crazy.
