OFI 318: How To Turn 20 Acres Into A House With Cattle | Special Coaching Session With Wendy From Ontario, Oregon

 SHOW NOTES

KEY IDEAS:

Today is our second episode devoted to coaching a listener for free.  I hope you see the consistency here. I tell you to work for free, and I am working for free to develop this part of my business.

Our guest today is Wendy from Ontario, Oregon.  Wendy and her husband both work full-time and have a farm dream.  They have purchased a 200 acre farm about 90 minutes away from her husband’s work and recently purchased another 500 acres nearby.  Now they want to fix up an old farmhouse on the property and they need funds to make this happen.

They are leasing out a large portion of the farm and farming the rest.  However, there is 20 acres of pasture available and they have their eye on the cattle business as a way to generate revenue to help with the remodeling of this house.

This turns into more of a consulting session than a coaching session.  But there is good information in here on a couple different models of using direct marketing to make beef really pay.

  1. Matt,
I am listening to my coaching session…I have to tell you I think listening to the session just adds to the experience. I cannot thank you enough for all the information you provided. You call it a consultation, but I would add sometimes consulting is a valuable part of coaching…especially when the coachee is so lacking in knowledge and experience.
As a follow up: We have decided we will start with a commodity model…and pray the market is kind to us. Your coaching moves helped us to make that decision…you asked about our end goals and described various business models. For us it is raising crops not cattle and for me restoring and living in that beautiful home. Building up a client base just so that we can restore a house does not sound like a good enough reason….so we will dabble. Thank you, for helping us reach that conclusion!!!!

Wendy, thank you so much for the feedback! I am very happy you chose the path that you did. Coaching is about helping you find the path that is right for you…..not right for the coach. So at least in that sense I did my job. Best of luck to both of you, and please let me know when the house is restored. Autumm, Hattie and I would love to come out and see it!

I’d like to use your comments as a testimonial on my website. Would that be alright with you?

      • Certainly! Please use them. When I finally find time to do a blog post, I wanted to share a link to your podcast. Hope that is OK too.
And you and the family are welcome any time!!!! We love to share and show off the farm and of course we always have questions too, so knowledgable guests are always welcome.
