OFI 1515: The Unique Perspectives Of An Agricultural Entrepreneur Whose Business Is Blowing Up | Karoline Rose | KRose Company

Karoline Rose is the founder and CEO of Cattleman U, KRose Company, and The Rancher’s Daughter. Her mission is to show ranchers – specifically ranch women – how valuable their creative side is on the ranch. She believes empowering women on the operation is the best way to ensure the operation continues on for the next generation, and that is what she and her team strive to do. Watching women strive for and achieve personal and professional growth on their ranch lights her up.

Karoline first appeared on the Off-Farm Income Podcast seven years ago as she was beginning this journey.  Today we get caught up.  It is amazing how far she has come in under ten years.

Below are the original show notes from our first interview.

KEY IDEAS:

Our guest today figured out what I could not, and that was how to stay in Montana and start her own cattle business.  Karoline Rose graduated from the esteemed, Montana State University, just a couple years back.  She received multiple job offers with very attractive starting salaries upon graduating and had the courage to follow her own vision

Karoline grew up around the cattle business, particularly the buying and selling of cattle for other ranches.  She combined her passion for the cattle business with what she learned growing up and her knowledge of social media for a new approach in cattle marketing.  This was the genesis to the KRose Company including the KRose Cattle Company and KRose Marketing.
Karoline has a classic entrepreneurial story – she had an idea that everyone told her could not work, and she proved them wrong.  Karoline started marketing cattle on Facebook and was met with success. Now she has opened a whole new method of marketing her and other people’s cattle.

This has also led Karoline to help other people market their own businesses and products.  In addition to cattle marketing she is now consulting with other businesses to assist them in building their brand and spreading the word about what they do.  Her company offers everything from web design to logo creation to print design.  And, she is creating new entrepreneurs all over the country.

This really is a great story.  I hope you enjoy it!

ADVICE FROM KAROLINE:

WAKE UP: Karoline says you better wake up early.  She believes that everyone’s most productive time of day is early in the morning, and when you get your day off to the right start you accomplish a lot more the rest of the day.

ROUTINE: Karoline is a big advocate for a morning routine.  This goes right along with getting up early.  Be purposeful about how you start your day and get started.

TURN OFF YOUR RADIO: I loved this piece of advice.  Karoline is a strong advocate for podcasting.  She suggests that you always be learning when you have time to kill, like when you are driving down the road.  Instead of listening to wasteful political topics or sports on the radio, shut that off and tune into an educational podcast.  I was thrilled with this piece of advice!

BOARD OF DIRECTORS: Karoline advocates for you having a “personal board of directors”.  She has found a group of people that will help her and be honest with her when different obstacles or ideas come up in her business.

SMARTPHONE LIMITS: Karoline suggested that everyone get the app “Moments” for their smartphones so you can see just how much time you are wasting looking at your telephone every day.  Then you can start working on cutting this down, giving you more time to focus on your venture every day.

BEST BUSINESS ADVICE KAROLINE HAS RECEIVED:

HUSTLE: Get up early and hustle.  Hustle is the one thing that all
of us can do, no matter what our talent or education level is.  Get out there and make it happen!

PERSONAL HABIT THAT HELPS KAROLINE SUCCEED:

MORNING RITUAL: This has to be Karoline’s #1 habit – waking up early and being purposeful about how she starts her day – everyday!

BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS:

Karoline strongly recommends the following books that have been very influential in her success:
