I have interviewed a number of students with lawn care businesses by this point. It is a great business for a student to start, no matter what their future aspirations are. This is especially true for FFA students who do not live out on a farm or have the ability to raise livestock.
I have also met some impressive farmers who started lawn care businesses, later sold them and used that money to fund their move into farming. That is why I called the lawn care business the future millionaire maker.
If you read books on business and entrepreneurship from the 1980’s and 1990’s the dry cleaning business is always talked about as a “millionaire maker”. Most of the people in this audience are not likely to go into dry cleaning as we want to live rural (lack of demand) and we want to work outside in the dirt. So, what do we turn to. Lawn care seems to be the emerging business that can make people money, teach them about agriculture and get them outside.
Our guest today, Kaden Mitchell, wants to eventually be a criminal prosecutor. But for now he is running Mitchell Lawn Service and learning all about business and serving customers. This has led him to receive state awards and has developed his work ethic. All of these are attributes he will need in the courtroom.

Donate to FFA – One way that FFA students are able to start small businesses is through an FFA grant of $1,000. In 2014, 141 FFA students received these grants. With your donations, more students can get this head start – pay it forward.
REASONS TO DONATE TO FFA:
“Because American farmers are able to provide for so many of us, they give more and more of us the freedom to pursue goals and livelihoods beyond growing the food we need to survive.”
