OFI 658: Why Live With Layoffs, Consumer Debt & High Stress – Go Country | Tuesday Edition Episode

Tuesday Episode

Two articles caught my eye last week, and they made me realize how lucky all of us are to be living or pursuing this rural and agricultural lifestyle!

Two Articles:

There were two articles that really inspired this episode today.  I wanted to share both of them with you:

Lowe’s Layoffs

Increasing Consumer Debt To Stay In The Middle Class

Both of these articles will be read with a negative perspective from the bulk of people in the United States. And, I completely understand why.  Layoffs and consumer debt are almost always looked at through a negative lens.

There is one group of Americans who can look at these articles differently though.  Those are the listeners of the Off-Farm Income Podcast.  As people who are pursuing a rural and agricultural lifestyle we are in a lot of ways immune from the problems being discussed in these articles.

If you are using or plan to use entrepreneurship to create this lifestyle, you are even further removed because you are going to be converting toys into money making assets and buying things that appreciate in value rather than lose value.

You are also likely to live somewhere that you do not feel the pressure to keep up with the Joneses, and where your living expenses are going to be low.  And what are you giving up for this?  Nothing!  This is the lifestyle you want.

How lucky are we to be born with a desire that leads us to less stress, a life that is not based on material goods and interests that revolve around money making and appreciating assets?  I think we are very lucky!

Thank you all for tuning in and enjoy the episode!
