There is nothing better about hosting your own podcast than when you get to personally interact with those you have connected with. In this week’s episode I get to do just that.

I have had a business trip to Florida planned for several months. I am currently wrapping up a conference on podcasting called Podcast Movement. Autumm and Hattie decided to come out to Florida with me for part of the trip. So, Hattie started researching aquariums because of her love the ocean and animals. She is thinking that she wants to be a marine biologist in the future. Who knows where she will end up, but for now this is where her passion lies.

About two months ago I was contacted by a listener, Stephen Schwanebeck. Stephen liked the Off-Farm Income Podcast Facebook Page. Like I do with every person who likes the page I read his Facebook profile. I saw on there that he was the lead horticulturist at the Florida Aquarium. I started looking deeper into his profile and saw that he hosts a Facebook page called “Love For The Farm“.

It turned out that Stephen wants to farm in the future, and is getting as involved in farming as he can at the moment. It also turned out that on that same day I found out that the aquarium that Hattie had found in Florida that she wanted to visit was the very one where Stephen is the horticulturist.

So, we added something to the business trip – an on site interview with Stephen. We learned a lot about the aquarium, and we learned a lot about horticulture. It was amazing to see how far the reach for the horticulture department of an aquarium actually is. Autumm actually did the bulk of the interviewing during the tour, and is really coming into her own as my partner in the podcast and an interviewer.

I hope you really enjoy the show. I wrap it up with the tour and start with the one on one interview I conducted with Stephen. It seemed to flow a little bit better that way.
