OFI 672: An Online Farmers Market | Chris Schuler | The “Know Your Farmer” App

KEY IDEAS: 

Today is a great follow up episode with Chris Schuler, who appeared on our show in 2018 on episode #474.  Chris has a great story.  He is a self-described ex-partier who one day woke up, got sober and started progressing in his life.  Chris started with a landscaping company called Redbud Designs which we discussed in episode 474.  During that episode he talked about how he wanted to one day create an app with applications in farming.

Well, the time has come and the app is here.  The Know Your Farmer App just launched, and it is a real thing.  It is also a brilliant idea that has not been replicated.

Chris had a vision of an app that would allow farmers to post the items they have for sale and consumers in their area to see what was available, like an online farmer’s market.  He wanted the farmers and consumers to be able to communicate and to build a stronger community of people who want to consume fresh food.

Chris saw how easy it was for people to get processed foods that are created by big companies.  And, he saw that the food you could buy at supermarkets and places like Walmart could be delivered right to your home.  He thought there should be something for locally grown and fresh food that would be compatible.

What is so impressive about Chris is that he followed through with this and made it happen.  So many people talk about a big idea like this, but Chris actually accomplished it.  He has been working on this app and putting a team together since 2017.  August 26, 2019 was his official launch date, and I am proud to be a part of it.

Today we will discuss how his first business, just like mine, was a vessel to take him to a bigger concept.  And, we will talk about how you make money from an app, and what it took to keep him pushing forward.  Enjoy everyone!
