OFI 686: The Weeds Are Too Tall For Shooting!

Speaking Of Articles

On our last Tuesday episode we talked all about writing articles to help promote your business.  How lucky am I that I have a friend who chose to do the work for me?  In Sunday’s edition of the Idaho Press Tribune my friend, Reed Hollinshead, wrote a nice article about my transition from being a police officer to small business owner to podcaster.  It is a really nice article, and if you would like to know more about my transition you can find the information at this link.

Weather

Those of you who listen on a regular basis know that I am a weather junkie.  Well, a couple of weeks ago when I was down in California we got a lot of rain back at the farm.  So much in fact that I thought I might be able to skip an irrigation.  So, I figured that when I got home I would check the weather station to see just how much we got and make a decision.

Well, it turned out that my weather station was not working properly any longer, and there was no way for me to pull the needed information off of it.  I got fed up and marched right down to D&B Supply to buy new equipment.  There I purchased an analog rain gauge as well as analog thermometer.  And, I also purchased a new weather station that will will interface with my smartphone through an app.  So, now, no matter where I am at, I can always know how much rain I am getting at home.

If you are thinking about upgrading your weather station, I can highly recommend my new one as I have tested its reliability against the analog equipment I purchased, and it worked great.  And, if you do purchase one, please purchase it through my affiliate link by clicking on the image below:

Canadian Thistle

If you noticed the cover photo on this post, you saw a picture of Hattie getting ready for deer season last year.  Well, we went out last night to do the same thing. Only one problem, with the wet spring we had the Canadian Thistle has grown so tall that it is impossible to lay down prone and do some shooting.  You cannot see through the weeds to the target.

So, after a lot of maneuvering with no luck Hattie ended up taking some shots out of the back of the pickup yesterday evening just to get above the weeds.  Luckily she is a great shot, and she is right on track for the great deer tag she has this year.

Goodbye Goats

I kept all of our goats from last year over the winter to do an experiment.  I had noticed that there was a significant price bump with goats when they got over 60 lbs.  So, I thought I might make more money by keeping them until they were that weight and selling them at that point.

So, last weekend I hauled almost every goat we had, except for the nannies and the buck, to the livestock auction.  It hit the market right as the prices were up overall.  And, my speculation about getting them over 60 lbs was also a good one.  The think I am most happy with is to have all of those goats off of the farm.  They were really getting restless and frequently finding their way out of the fence.  I am glad they are gone!
