INTRODUCING TIMOTHY JAMES!
In today’s episode we are featuring the 2019 New York State Proficiency Winner in diversified livestock, Timothy James. After you are done listening to this episode you will have a clear understanding of why he received this award. Timothy is very involved in livestock production, food production and community service.
Timothy is the president of his FFA chapter at Afton Central High School in Afton, New York. The FFA chapter is intertwined with the Afton Food Bank, and Timothy finds himself in charge of both the food bank and crop production at his FFA chapter.
Timothy also raises multiple species of livestock, including goats and chickens. He has a very interesting business selling eggs and raising layers. Last year Timothy sold over 1800 dozen eggs through farmers markets in his area. They rotate chicken flocks every year so they know when a group of layers is past its peak. And, they purchase pullets rather than incubate their own chicks for business efficiency.
