If You Like Photography, You Will Want To Start With A Good Camera Body:

 SHOW NOTES

KEY IDEAS:

Kirsten Gesenberg loves farm animals.  She also loves photography.  She also lives near several farms.  Are you seeing a connection?

Kirsten has taken her love of photography, farm animals and her proximity to farms and turned it into a viable business model.  She still pursues this mostly as a hobby, but she has figured out a revenue stream from taking photographs of farm animals.

This episode is loaded with inspiration and great information about how to get started, business models and how to approach the owners of livestock if you do not have your own.

ADVICE FROM KIRSTEN:

APPROACH: Don’t be afraid to approach people.  Most farmers will be thrilled that you are interested in what they are doing and their livestock.  A lot of times you probably will get a story about the animals along with your photos.

CAREFUL: Be careful with your camera.  Kirsten learned this one the hard way.  But working outside, in all sorts of weather and in farm environments can be hard on delicate equipment.

SOCIALIZE: There are a lot of groups on social media that will help you become a better photographer.  From advice you can receive online to meetups with people who share your same passion, you can learn and improve, learn and improve, and have a great time doing it.

MILLION: Take a million photographs.  Okay, maybe not literally, but make it feel like a million.  Digital cameras give you the grace to be able to take a lot of photographs, so you can get that perfect one.  Take advantage of this.

EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR STARTING OUT:

Sony Cyber-Shot DSCW810 20.1MP Digital Camera
Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS10 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 16x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and Built-In GPS Function (Black)

PERSONAL HABIT THAT HELPS KIRSTEN SUCCEED:

Kirsten is very organized.  As you can imagine, if she is taking hundreds or even thousands of photographs over a weekend, this will be very important.

RESOURCES:

Kirsten really recommends getting on social media and finding groups of like minded people, interested in the same things that you are.

She was very happy with the JJ Community on Instagram
