OFI 287: How And Why To Teach Agriculture | Ellen Thompson | Project Director Of The National Teach Ag Campaign

 SHOW NOTES

KEY IDEAS:

Today’s episode is a little different for an FFA SAE Edition.  This rarely happens, but we do not have a student guest for today’s show.  Instead I chose to feature Ellen Thompson, the Director Of The National Teach Ag Campaign.

This was a dual purpose interview.  National FFA had asked me to interview Ellen to discuss National Teach Ag Day.  However, Ellen had so much great information about ag education that I just kept asking her questions.  Soon, we had so much content that there was no way that “FFA Today” could ever use it.

I got permission from Ellen and National FFA to use the whole interview here so you could hear it all.  Highlights of this episode include:

  • What is really going on with ag teacher retention in the United States
  • You can become an ag teacher without a teaching credential
  • The benefits of teaching agriculture
  • The successes of ag education in the United States

I hope you enjoy this episode.  If you tune into my FFA SAE episodes and like hearing the stories of the students, you will get a lot of the background of how agricultural education and the people that instruct and advise those students work.
