OFI 667: Fly To Morocco With The FFA | FFA SAE Edition | Thea Clarkberg | TST New Visions FFA

INTRODUCING THEA CLARKBERG!

Today’s interview involves a phenomenal story!  Thea Clarkberg grew up urban in Ithaca, NY.  She had some exposure to horses which got her interested in agriculture.  Then she saw an ad for a vocational type school called TST BOCES, and the ad said that in that school she could get some time job shadowing with veterinarians.
Thea was very interested in becoming a veterinarian and ended up going to that school, and that is how she got introduced to the FFA.  They only have seniors in the FFA there, no other grades participate.  Thea had a very influential advisor who got her involved in some very interesting projects like drawing blood from dairy cattle on a daily basis to check for ketone levels.  Her advisor also stressed creating a compelling cover letter and resume and taught her students how to do this.
Thea ended up applying for a dream internship doing veterinarian work with horses and donkeys in Morocco and was awarded this internship.  She spent a month in Morocco working on their main form of transport, donkeys, for “American Fandouk“.
Thea said that the internship is only for veterinary students, but she applied anyway.  Thanks to the cover letter and resume that her advisor had helped her create she was accepted as a freshman in college, not even close to vet school.  She gives credit to the FFA for all of this.
Thea is a great example of how you should always go for what you want.  You never know, you just might get it!

Donate to FFA – One way that FFA students are able to start small businesses is through an FFA grant of $1,000.  In 2014, 141 FFA students received these grants.  With your donations, more students can get this head start – pay it forward.

REASONS TO DONATE TO FFA:

  • Only 2% of Americans grow and raise most of the food and livestock consumed by the other 98% as well as the rest of the world.  FFA is providing the needed education, training and resources to Americans that will carry that torch forward and insure that America continues to have inexpensive, quality food.
  • Rural Communities will rely on entrepreneurship in the future for population growth and job creation.  The FFA is a major catalyst to that entrepreneurial growth.
  • Farmers, ranchers and those working in agriculture give the rest of America incredible amounts of freedom because the search for food is as simple as going to the grocery store:

“The future of American agriculture depends on the involvement and investment in America’s youth, In order to prepare for the population of tomorrow, we need to encourage America’s youth today, and show that careers in agriculture are profitable, rewarding, and vital.”.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue
